Stress disorder after trauma
What is post-traumatic stress disorder?
Post-traumatic stress disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD, is a disorder that results from being exposed to a frightening event in which there was either a threat of bodily harm, or indeed actual bodily harm occurred during it. Traumatic events that can trigger PTSD include violent personality attacks, natural or man-made disasters, accidents, or military battles.
Signs and symptoms
People with post-traumatic stress disorder have frightening thoughts and memories that recur in their minds from the same event or frightening experience they experienced, and they feel like they are 'mentally dormant', especially towards people who were close to their hearts in the past. They may suffer from sleep problems, a feeling of disconnection or drowsiness, and be easily startled.
Treatment
Effective treatment for PTSD exists, and the new study provides new treatment options that may help most people with PTSD and other anxiety disorders live a full and fulfilling life.
